PORIJ NOBODY SCARED

Mancunian quartet Porji seamlessly merge some our favourite sounds...house, R&B and indie, for a sound that's smooth and rough around the edges. Their sound has been described as "genre-splicing art-pop ready made for the dancefloor". Following their 2020 single 'Breakfast', Porij have dropped a new single 'Nobody Scared', alongside a video shot on Manchester's industrial streets. Plucked synth sounds introduce the songs, followed by Egg's coy, but soulful vocals, 'walking around with your red coat falling down, nobody scared'. The song quickly progresses into an uptempo electronic sound with synth bass, and funky bass guitar - a mood that sits in stark contrast to the lyrical sentiment. Porji explain, "Egg wrote the lyrics for Nobody Scared after watching a documentary on Netflix about the Yorkshire Ripper. It focused on the Reclaim the Night marches and it made them remember the feeling of fear of walking home alone at night. The song is about recognising those feelings but addressing the fact that women and girls shouldn’t have to live their lives afraid". 'Nobody Scared' is a powerful and dance-driven protest song. -Ellie Rose-Davies
